Okay, here's one:

- In the "Select Database..." Window, the cancel button doesn't do anything, and just disappears when you click on it.

Also, a question: How do you make custom templates? Is that still in the works? Thanks!

EDIT:

I just found a MAJOR bug. MacCaching won't quit. *cough* I had to force quit it.

Select Database isn't functional yet... I was working on the dialog. I decided to go ahead and release this build anyway.

I'm using 1.2.9 #183 on 10.5.3/10.5.2 (It happened before the 3 upgrade, too.)

Whenever I export to my iPod contacts, it won't strip the GC from the GC code. In my iPod Touch, I need the different letters to make it easy to scroll through. I'm going to try longname exports for now. Thanks!

I'm using 1.2.9 build #183 on 10.5.5 and Geopher Lite on my iPhone. To get cache descriptions from MacCaching to Geopher I made the following text template :
Code: Select all
//Name:vCard (GeopherLite)
BEGIN:VCARD
VERSION:3.0
N:#gcid#;#name#;;;;
ORG:#latitude# #longitude#
URL:geopherlite://setTarget;lat=#latitude#;lon=#longitude#;waypoint=#gcid#
NOTE:D#difficulty# T#terrain# S#size#
END:VCARD

Now, when I import a GPX file that contains log entries and export those caches using my custom template I get all log entries at the end of the export files (after "END:VCARD"). This is more an annoyance than a bug because when I import the vcards to Address Book for iPhone syncing it complains about invalid vCards.
Note: exporting to text files in vcard-format allows me to convert coordinates to format understood by Geopher Lite (Ndd.mmmm Edd.mmmm) and allows me to sync cache information to iPhone Contacts eliminating tedious (and error prone) typing of each cache.

Howdy,

Using MacCaching 1.2.9 (build 183). I'm trying to install caches on a Garmin Colorado 400t. Since it doesn't seem to work properly automatically I've exported a gpx file and drag and drop it in .../Garmin/GPX/ when the Colorado is mounted. The caches show up on the Colorado as plain waypoints rather than caches although the symbol is the cache symbol. If I download a gpx file directly from geocaching.com and drop it in place the cache shows up properly as a cache on the Colorado.

Good Luck,
Herb Schulz

I'm using build #183, but I think this happens in the released version for me as well...

The mouse pointer disappears in the map window. I have to move the mouse out of the window and back in to locate it.

Yes - confirmed - saw it in 175 and in 183

Can you check - see if you're getting the same as me? The cursor will also appear if you manage to get the mouse over a geocache on the map (takes a bit of aiming) ?

This is a problem with REALBasic, the compiler I am using.

REALSoftware is absolutely lousy at doing anything bugs in their compiler, and this is a great example. Even though I provided them multiple examples and even a YouTube video, they claim it to be unreproducible.

So, sorry, but it doesn't look like that one will be fixed until version 2.0

New build! Yes!

I haven't kicked all the tires yet, but the one thing I've noticed right of the bat with #184 is that all caches show as "inactive" in CacheMate, regardless of their actual status.

I filter inactive caches out of my PQs, so it won't bother me in the short term, but I wanted to report it.

Thanks for adding the cache owner to the exported information, though. That's something I've really been itching for.

Howdy,

Just downloaded and tried the latest build (#184) and still have exported gpx coming up as a waypoint rather than a cache on my Colorado (I'd bet on an Oregon too).

I downloaded a gpx file for one of my found caches from geocaching.com:
Code: Select all

At a meeting of Cork Corporation in February 1901, Lord Mayor
Edward Fitzgerald mooted the holding of an International Exhibition
in Cork.

Fuelled by his energy and the organisational skills of several
others his dream came to fruition in May 1902.

The Exhibition Committee purchased a house and lands beside the
Mardyke Walk called "The Shrubberies" and leased adjoining lands.
This Committee then constructed an elaborate complex of buildings
to house a wide range of cultural and industrial exhibits, as well
as fair ground attractions.

During its 1902 season (1st May to 1st November) the International
Exhibition attracted over one million visitors. The attractions
were varied - industrial and machinery halls, a Grand Concert Hall
and a Women's section vied for attention with amusements that
included the Great Water Chute and the Switchback Railway.

The success of the 1902 season prompted the Exhibition Committee
to re-opon again in 1903. The highlight of the 1903 season was the
visit to the exhibition grounds on 1st August, during their Irish
tour, of King Edward V11 and Queen Alexandra.

Following the conclusion of the Exhibition in 1903, most of the
buildings were dismantled, but "The Shrubberies" and grounds were
presented to the citizens of Cork as a recreational area.

It was decided to name the grounds "Fitzgerald Park" in honour of
the Exhibition's initiator, who was also honoured by being created
a baronet.

Features of the Exhibition Grounds were preserved in the Park,
including the Fr Mathew Fountain.

Now the Cache!

Part 1
The starting location will have you standing at the childrens play
area in the Park. It's a great place to take the children to burn a
few calories, or for the parents to relax! However, if you're here
for caching, what you need is to look at the maximum height at the
starting location. (1A0 cm). Note A

Part 2
Go to N 51° 53.751 W 008° 29.691
This next part will take you to the other side of the park, where
you will be standing infront of a large sculpture. This man is
famous in Irish history, but what you need for now is his
year of birth.
Note as 1BC0

Part 3
Go to 51°53.758N 008°29.622W
On your way you will pass
by the Cork Public Musuem, the opening hours are noted on the door,
and there is actually a Part 2 Cache based on this musuem. At the
co-ordinates, you will need the year inscribed on the plaque
accompanying the sculpture.
Note this year as 19DE

Part 4
Go to 51°53.804N 008°29.645W
From the plaque labelled
'Torso', you need the year,
Note as 19FG

Part 5
From here walk to 51°53.786N 008°29.703W
You will meet
a family, as such. What you need is the number of members. Count
properly!
Note this number as HJ

Please Do Not Take A Geocoin or Travelbug Unless You Will
Log It On The Geocaching Website!! Thank You

Now you have all the necessary information, and all you have to do
is grab a seat and put it all together!!

The Final location is:

N51° 53 . (A+E) (C-H) (G-E)

W008° 29.(B-H) (B-J) (F+D)

Please hide the cache properly when you're finished! Thanks !

Initial Cache Contents:
An Estonian patch
An Irish Call Card
Set of screwdrivers
Retractable ID Holder
Logbook and pencils
GeoCoin

Now go for the

Additional Hidden Waypoints
F119B4W - Part 2
N 51° 53.751 W 008° 29.691

F219B4W - Part 3
N 51° 53.758 W 008° 29.622

F319B4W - Part 4
N 51° 53.804 W 008° 29.645

F419B4W - Part 5
N 51° 53.786 W 008° 29.703

</groundspeak>

It took a bit of searching at GZ, but we found a couple of lovely wee field mice to watch for a while which was a bonus.</groundspeak>

<groundspeak>This was our first ever multi-cache and we really enjoyed it! We had planned a day of geocaching, only to be thwarted by some truely shocking weather - horizontal rain and gales - true Irish weather! Anyway, we went grocery shopping instead, and when we came out of the shop the sun was out! So, we dashed to the park only to find it completely empty (like the end of the world or a zombie movie :)). There were branches down every where, I've never seen anything like it! Anyway we had a great time solving the clues, but when we got to the end we had to search for ages! There was a man with a little girl hanging around rather suspiciously - I did wonder if they were geocaching too? Anyway, while S was working out the clue, J found the cache. We signed the log, took nothing and left clackers. We will be back soon to do part two, as the museum had closed by the time we got there. TFTC - this was really good fun!</groundspeak>

<groundspeak>A lovely cache in a lovely spot. I've spent many happy hours in this park over the years and it's nice to come back. I've been meaning to do it since it was placed but I only seemed to be in Cork rarely, and then either too busy looking after the little jobs that we all have to do or after closing time. I mustn't forget to bring gloves or wipes, I squashed a poor tiny slug resealing the ziplock! Sorry.
A couple of very persistent muggles doing a photoshoot all around the site kept me there for the best part of half an hour.
I did see the robin mentioned elsewhere, he must live in there.
I kept the Dakar Keyring and left a little sunshine charm and I'll send the RSA flag TB on its way.

Part 3
Go to 51°53.758N 008°29.622W On your way you will pass
by the Cork Public Musuem, the opening hours are noted on the door,
and there is actually a Part 2 Cache based on this musuem. At the
co-ordinates, you will need the year inscribed on the plaque
accompanying the sculpture.
Note this year as 19DE

Part 4
Go to 51°53.804N 008°29.645W From the plaque labelled
'Torso', you need the year,
Note as 19FG

Part 5
From here walk to 51°53.786N 008°29.703W You will meet
a family, as such.

Thanks !

I have also seen a small fearless bird, now I found out it was Mr. Robin - perhaps he wanted to show me the cache, but I didn't understand him :)

I encountered an odd error when exporting my lists today.

When I attach the GPS and fire it up, the first transfer goes fine, but any subsequent transfer yields this error:

Image

Turning off and restarting the GPS clears the problem. Relaunching MacCaching did not. Disconnecting and reconnecting the GPS without powering down the unit did not.

I was able to load my entire library by restarting the GPS each time, but it was definitely a pain.

Let me know if any further testing or information would be of help.

Have you tried updating the firmware on your GPS?

Another option would be to manually downgrade gpsbabel to an older version. The 60C doesn't need the latest version which may be causing the issue.

Pulling GPSBabel out of the previous version of MacCaching and dropping it into the new build fixed the problem ... thanks!

I have been aware of a newer firmware update for my 60C for quite some time, and that one of the fixes included is "improved Macintosh USB support", but ironically you can't install the update with a Mac. I simply haven't gotten around to taking my the GPSr over to a friend's place to get it updated.

Perhaps I should move that closer to the top of my list of things to do. If do get the update installed, I'll go back to the new version of GPSB and try it again and let you know if it still works or not.

A minor nit, and likely not a bug ... but it took me forever to figure out that clicking on the bottom border of the MacCaching window was causing the database dialog to pop up. Once I figured it out, I was able o avoid it, but I never realized before how often I drag the MacCaching window around by clicking and dragging on the bottom border.

My personal preference would be if the database dialog popup could be limited to a specific button in the bottom border.

Thanks again for the help.

Interesting.... It is actually (or should be) the text label on the bottom border. Maybe I'll try changing that to double-click instead. I like having access to the database selector like that, but can see how your usage would be annoying.
